Webber Revises Points Target for the Season

Jaguar driver Mark Webber has revised his points target for the season following his third successive top-eight finish at last weekend's French Grand Prix.

Jaguar driver Mark Webber has revised his points target for the season following his third successive top-eight finish at last weekend's French Grand Prix.

The Australian's sixth place at Magny-Cours was his fifth points finish of the season and lifted him up to ninth in the drivers' standings on 12 points - the target he set himself back in March.

"I said I'd finish the season with 12 points at the start of the year," Webber said. "If we can get anywhere near 20 it would be an amazing season. But we might go three races now where we hit trouble. We've just got to keep boxing away. In France we were clearly, easily number five and we've got to work hard to stay there."

Webber, rookie of the year with Minardi last season, has been a revelation this season after overcoming a difficult start to the campaign with Milton Keynes-based Jaguar.

He is delighted with his own personal form - teammate Antonio Pizzonia is one of only three drivers yet to score a point - but knows that he must continue to work hard to retain his run of points finishes.

"The strike rate in the last few races has been really impressive," added Webber. "It's tough when the top guys are so reliable, but the Renaults hit trouble in France and the race before we had Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard.

"We've just got to be there for opportunities like that. But there are 16 tracks around the world and we need to make sure we try to fill in some of the bogey tracks we have. That's overall packaging, efficiency, aerodynamics, engine, the whole thing."
