Webber: Red Bull's best will come in 2008

Mark Webber believes it will take until 2008 for Red Bull Racing to really show their true potential, even though he is predicting the team's best ever season this year

The Australian joins the Milton Keynes-based outfit after two frustrating years at Williams, and is upbeat about his new team's upcoming car and the input of designer Adrian Newey.

But he believes that it will take more than just one year for Newey's influence to really be felt and that the team can only be expected to hit top form in 2008.

"I'm certain we're about to have by far the strongest season this team has ever had in all its various guises," said Webber in an interview with this week's Autosport.

"But I think 2008 is when it's really going to kick in. For 2007? To win from the front of the grid and come home 10 seconds clear? That might be asking a lot. But you can always have a lucky day. I'm owed a few after last year."

Webber says he is impressed with his early experience of working with Newey, but believes it may take some time for their relationship to fully gel.

"I think it's a relationship that will evolve as the season unravels itself," he explained. "Adrian is powerful in terms of what he would like to see happen with the car, and it's up to me to put it on the limit for him. That's what I'm here to do.

"How we each deliver will determine that relationship and I'm sure it's going to be a very, very satisfying and rewarding one for both of us.

"He's achieved a huge amount and obviously is looking to really stamp his authority yet again in a different environment to show that he's still the top dog, that he's bloody good at what he does - which he's proved time and again from the Leyton House days onwards."

Webber added: "Before I met him I thought he'd be a real boffin, not have a huge understanding of what the driver is going through, but it's not like that at all.

"He has a great understanding of what happens at each circuit, how the track evolves through a weekend, the sort of thing you expect from a Pat Symonds sort of a guy."
