Webber Positive After Strong Start

Australian Mark Webber was positive after a strong performance in practice for the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

Australian Mark Webber was positive after a strong performance in practice for the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

The Minardi driver, who has scored two points so far thanks to a fifth place at the season opening Australian Grand Prix, set the 15th quickest time of today's sessions, outpacing Juan Pablo Montoya in the Williams as well as Takuma Sato in the Jordan and Olivier Panis in the BAR.

Webber, like the majority of the drivers, complained about the poor grip of the track, but was looking for a strong performance in tomorrow's qualifying.

"We had two spins, actually, and a few excursions," said Webber. "The track was quite greasy at the start, and we made some good improvements the second session after the track got more rubber.

"It is normal on Friday on the first session to be quite greasy, especially with a bit of rain overnight. It was good, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. We have a few little things we want to try, so it will be good."

Webber's teammate Alex Yoong finished at the bottom of the times.
