Villeneuve: Sauber Hindered by Budget
Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve believes his Sauber team's chances of dramatically improving their form are being hindered by their lack of budget
Just a few weeks after team boss Peter Sauber confessed that financial limitations were one of his major concerns, Villeneuve has spoken out in his belief that the team are unable to make the most of their resources because of money reasons.
"The infrastructure is there, we just need bigger budgets now. We have a lack of resources," he told his own website.
"We have a great wind tunnel but we don't spend enough time in it. We can't design new suspension to try just for the sake of them. You have the car for the whole year and you don't test much.
"I've always been in teams where budget was not a problem, where we could get the parts we wanted and if we had idea we could just try them. It's a bit of a different approach but the team makes an amazing use of the budget they have."
He added: "With this amount of budget other teams would do less, it is very efficient but it would be good to keep this level of efficiency with more money.
"I've never worked with a team with this level of resources compared to the others, even in Formula Three. Of course it takes getting used to because if one area for you is a problem it will be harder to fix it."
