Valencia day 7: Teams roll on

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher continued to dominate Formula 1 testing after the world champion's second day at the Valencia circuit in Spain on Sunday

After setting a blistering pace on his opening day on Saturday, Schumacher led the way once more on day seven at the tight and twisty track as Formula 1's intensive pre-season testing rumbles on.

The Ferrari ace's younger brother Ralf eked yet more speed out of his Williams-BMW and finished the day in second place after setting his best lap of the week just 0.141s behind Michael.

On the final day for the Williams team, which has called time on this particular test after seven days consecutive running, test drivers Antonio Pizzonia and Marc Gene filled third and fourth places.

"We have focused our attentions on reliability running of the major components that are new to the car for 2002, as well as committing extensive energy to assessing Michelin's new compounds and constructions," said the team's chief operations engineer Sam Michael. "I am happy with both the performance and the reliability we have been able to achieve."

The only other team present was British American Racing with Olivier Panis completing just nine laps before being halted by a mechanical problem. The Brackley-based team's all-new BAR004 has set competitive times over the last week, but with Panis' early departure, new test driver Ryo Fukuda was left to carry on alone. The Japanese completed 98 laps and finished fifth in a 2001-spec car.

Ferrari number two Rubens Barrichello is due to get back behind the wheel again on Monday after his high-speed testing crash on Saturday. The Brazilian is thought to have bruised his shoulder during the incident and stayed out of the car today (Sunday).
