Valencia day 2 am: Kimi on top

McLaren-Mercedes' new recruit Kimi Raikkonen topped the times on the second morning of Formula 1 testing at Valencia in Spain two places ahead of team mate David Coulthard in third

The McLaren pair completed just 11 laps of the tight and twisty circuit, which was still damp after the artificial wet weather running of yesterday (Monday). Raikkonen was the only man to dip into the 1m14s bracket as he continued to get to grips with his MP4-16.

Jordan returnee Giancarlo Fisichella finished the morning in second spot. The Italian spent the morning working on traction control software for the Silverstone-based team and completed 49 laps, many of which included runs through the pitlane and practice starts.

Jenson Button continued to keep the Renault team upbeat by setting the fourth fastest time. After leading the morning running on Monday, the young Brit's best effort was just under 0.2s behind Coulthard.

Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya was fifth, while test driver Antonio Pizzonia was less successful. The young Brazilian left the garage the minute the pitlane opened, but span on his first lap and failed to make it back onto the track before lunch.

Japanese hotshoe Takuma Sato wound up sixth in the second Jordan despite a spin in the standing water at the fast Turn 9, while Mika Salo was seventh for Toyota ahead of Pedro de la Rosa. The Spaniard turned in only seven laps before a hydraulics problem on his all-new R3 brought him to a halt. Alex Yoong was ninth, 11 seconds behind Raikkonen's benchmark time.
