Even with the low brake demands of the Indianapolis track, it can be difficult to find the ideal brake cooling balance. Ferrari settled for these much smaller than standard ducts (inset) compared to the standard ones in the main picture.



Following Felipe Massa's accident in Montreal, its cars featured beefed-up rear suspension. The failure was where the front arm of the lower wishbone attaches to the engine. A carbon-fibre arm attached to a knife plate that goes onto the engine broke, a similar failure having occurred on Massa's car in Monza testing. For Indy, this was made stiffer.



This is the low-downforce wing that Renault ran in Indy. It is similar in profile to the Canadian GP version with a twisted main profile (1) and twin fixing points for the flap (2).



Sauber had new inner brake drums with extensive cooling holes in the top.
