Trulli unhappy despite fastest time

Jarno Trulli has said that he was surprised to set the fastest time in first qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, because he isn't happy with the balance of his Renault R23B

The Italian sneaked past Ralf Schumacher to top the timesheets with a lap of 1m22.358s, but reckons that a lot of work is needed on his car to optimise its set-up around the duty Hungaroring circuit.

"It is a satisfying result after a difficult day," he said. "The track is very slippery, which meant that we weren't able to get the most out of our two hours [private test] this morning.

"I honestly didn't expect to be so quick, because the car isn't well balanced at the moment. I need to work had with the engineers tonight to find a batter balance and improve the car for tomorrow."

Pat Symonds, Renault's executive director of engineering, said: "Considering the balance of the cars is a long way from being optimised, we can only assume that our competitors are having more problems than us on this very low grip circuit. To see Jarno take the pole is a credit to the whole team, both here at the circuit and back at the factory."
