Trulli positive about new Toyota

Jarno Trulli was positive about the performance of the new Toyota TF108 following his first day of proper testing with the car

Toyota unveiled their 2008 challenger last week before completing its roll-out on Sunday and beginning a three-day test at Jerez yesterday.

Trulli completed 84 laps on Monday, on his way to the eighth fastest time of the day.

The Italian said he was pretty happy with the first impressions of the new car.

"It was another positive day, quite a lot of laps," Trulli told reporters at the end of the day. "At the moment we are concentrating on mileage and understanding the car, which is pretty different from the previous car.

"In the end today we made a major step in terms of set-up and it terms of balance and also showed on the laptimes. We are still on an early stage, but I would say I'm pretty happy for the moment."

He added: "It's a different car. It's a step forward. We are not using the full potential of the car, because probably we have to work in a different way to set it up and balance it.

"Once we understand what we need we can work on producing pieces to put in the car, but at the moment you need to compromise a little bit."

The test started on a wet track following morning showers, giving the drivers the chance to try their cars in tricky conditions with no traction control.

Trulli said the driving was difficult but not too bad.

"It was okay for me. It wasn't too bad. The problem was when we couldn't get the temperatures in the tyres. It wasn't too bad.

"It was difficult but it's normal. It depends on what you expect. You can't go flat out out of the corners and expect the TC to control it. You don't have TC anymore. You need to be careful. You need to use more sensitivity."
