Trulli blames rules for dismal display

Renault's Jarno Trulli has said that Formula 1's new look rulebook was the root cause of his lacklustre run to 13th position in the San Marino Grand Prix today (Sunday)

The Italian was forced to make a late switch to the spare car just before qualifying, but that was set-up for team-mate Fernando Alonso. While Trulli trailed in a dismal 13th, Alonso scored three points in sixth to put him fourth in the world championship standings.

"I am obviously frustrated," said Trulli, whose fastest lap was almost two seconds slower than his team-mate's. "Although I didn't encounter any particular problem, to race in the T-car, which wasn't set up for me, make it impossible to make any progress during the race. It's a consequence of the new rules, and I must accept them. I will have to put this behind me and I am already looking forward to the next race."

Alonso said: "I couldn't hope for a better result. The car felt good and I was competitive from the start and it was great to be able to race and fight with the top teams."
