Trulli aims to keep Toyota ahead of rivals

The Italian delivered his and Toyota's first podium finish since 2005 in Magny-Cours - helped by the TF108 being well suited to the circuit and rivals McLaren and BMW Sauber having a difficult time.

And although Trulli says he is not expecting such a strong performance again this season, he sees no reason why the team cannot overhaul main rivals Red Bull Racing in the constructors' championship.

"I think we have got a good chance to stay ahead of them," explained Trulli. "I believe it's all down to us - drivers, and team. If we can move ahead and carry on the development work of the car, then we can stay ahead.

"Clearly at the beginning of the season it was very easy for me to stay ahead of Red Bull and Renault. Then, after Barcelona, it was nearly impossible to stay ahead.

"In Magny-Cours it seemed we could race them, but we need a step to be clearly ahead, a gain of one or two tenths, to be comfortable and get some extra points.

"Don't forget that I have lost several points this year and not from my mistakes. These have cost us five or six points up to now, and were stupid mistakes or inconveniences like in the first race with the battery failure.

"At the moment we just have to concentrate on ourselves and see if we can get the best out of the car at every race."

Although mixed weather conditions could make the British GP a lottery, Trulli thinks the Toyota should be competitive around Silverstone.

"We didn't look too bad during testing but we need to be realistic about our chances, because we want to be in the top 10 and try to score points," he said.

"It's difficult to believe we can do it [a podium] again, especially here, but I think we can be right behind the top ten, so this is my personal target."
