Raikkonen in no rush to decide on future

Kimi Raikkonen insists he is not going to make any decision about his future plans until after the current season has finished

The Finn is surrounded by continued speculation that he could quit the sport within the next two years - potentially opening the way for Fernando Alonso to make the switch to Ferrari.

But on the same weekend that David Coulthard announced he is to quit the sport at the end of this season, Raikkonen says he is in no rush to decide when he wants to walk away from F1.

"Like I always said, last year and before, I have a contract for next year and at then at some point I will make the decision," said Raikkonen. "So there is nothing to say and nothing to think about right now.

"We're just trying to end this season as well as we can and then we'll see what happens in the future."

Raikkonen has made no secret of the fact that he will only continue in F1 if he enjoys it, and he reiterated at Silverstone that he could not see himself staying any longer than he needed.

"For sure you want to stop before you are kicked out or you cannot find a place for yourself anymore. You should know yourself when it is a good time to stop and not really feel bad about it afterwards, whether you made the right choice or not.

"We'll see what happens in the future and if it feels like it then. Whoever makes the decision, they hopefully make the right one."

And Raikkonen believes that Coulthard has timed his retirement decision perfectly.

"Everybody expected it to happen at some point, I guess. He has been many, many years in Formula One, he is a really nice guy and I had a good time with him when we were teammates.

"In a way it's sad to see him go. What is he now, 37 or something? At some point he needs to stop. He is still doing well, so I guess it is better to stop when he is still doing well than when he is not going fast anymore."
