Toyota wants speed and reliability in France
Toyota team principal Ove Andersson is looking for a two-car points finish in this weekend's French Grand Prix, after the team's promising showing at the Nurburgring ended in disappointment with a double retirement
Despite both cars failing to finish, the European Grand Prix suggested the Japanese marque had taken a major step forwards, with Olivier Panis setting fastest times in several practice sessions, and both cars qualifying in the top ten for the race.
"I don't want to reflect on the race result of the European GP," said Anersson. "A double retirement was not what we deserved after a competitive practice and strong qualifying result at the Nurburgring.
"In terms of team work and overall performance I hope the last race was a turning point for us. I fully expect us to be as strong in France this weekend. The car usually performs well around fast tracks like Magny-Cours, and everyone is hungry for that elusive two-car points finish. We just need to translate the practice and qualifying speed into tangible race results."
The pace of the TF103 in Germany has given driver Olivier Panis a boost heading into his home race. "Magny-Cours is a very nice circuit and special for me with all the French spectators," he said. "Although I have not done too well there in the past, I am very confident for this year's race because I believe the high-speed circuit should suit our car."
