Toyota say TF107 an all-new car

Toyota's new TF107 is a complete departure from last year's car as the team bid to recover from their disappointing 2006 campaign

The team's technical chief Pascal Vasselon revealed at the launch in Cologne on Friday that there were almost no carry over parts from last year's car.

"It is almost a total change," explained Vasselon. "There are very few parts of the TF106B that would fit in the TF107 - maybe the seat belts."

Vasselon said that the main thrust of development had focused on aerodynamics and the ability of the car to optimise its tyres.

"The main performance factors don't change much year to year. The physics remain the same and our main drivers have been aerodynamic and tyre usage.

"With the tyres there has been a change. With Bridgestone now being the single tyre supplier we will not develop tyres any more, but it doesn't mean tyre usage will not be important.

"And in aerodynamics, most of the decisions in terms of the concept have been driven by aerodynamic considerations."

The TF107 features heavily sculpted aerodynamics - with a higher nose, flowing front and rear wing, plus a radical looking front suspension layout.

Speaking about the philosophy of the car, Vasselon said: "The engine and gearbox have moved forward, the front of the monocoque is quite a bit higher and we will be able to have some innovative suspension steps in the season.

"There are other things that are not so visible that will help us with performance too."

Toyota have set their sights on scoring their maiden F1 victory this season, although Toyota team principal Tsutomu Tomita was apologetic that the outfit had predicted exactly the same 12 months ago.

"It (2006) was a disappointing year and we made an announcement about our win objective a year ago but failed to succeed," he explained. "We want to apologise to our worldwide fans and sponsors as well.

"The TF107 collects all the latest knowledge we have now and we are very confident to fight."

Toyota president John Howett added: "It's pretty extensively changed in terms of basic lay-out.  When we went from the V10 to V8 the back of the engine effectively stayed in the same place, and the chassis and fuel tank filled the space where the front two cylinders of the V10 were.

"Now we've moved to engine forward, and yet worked really hard to still have a big tank. The gearbox is longer, and we will run a seamless shift for the first time.

"Aerodynamics is the big focus, and a lot of the chassis layout has been designed to give better aero opportunity. The whole monocoque concept has been modified in terms of height and how it sits.

"Before it was quite a low car, now it's higher. We have improved the suspension, and we have some interesting developments in the pipeline that we hope will give us performance."
