Toyota: No customer engines

Toyota boss Tsutomo Tomita says that Toyota will not be supplying customer engines in 2005 because the time is too short

Jordan has had talks with Toyota and it if believed that Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz was basing plans to buy Jaguar Racing around securing a supply of the Japanese V10s.

Speaking at Suzuka, Tomita said: "It is possible (that Toyota could supply customer engines), but if you are talking about next year, 2005, it is much too late to have the necessary preparation to look at a proposal. We don't want to get involved for 2005, but in the future we would look at it. It is October remember, with only two months of the year remaining -- it's impossible for 2005."

Minardi boss Paul Stoddart, whose plans have been thrown into doubt by Ford-owned Cosworth being up for sale, backed up Tomita.

"He's absolutely correct," Stoddart said. "It's too late to start thinking about engines in 2005 and that's why this is a case of force majeure (for Minardi). We are going to be forced down a route we don't want to go, not because people aren't willing to supply, but because they are not capable. We're in October and we haven't got any technical regulations or engines. It's not a very good position..."
