The Toyota team need to focus on improving their reliability in order to fight for the points, the Japanese squad's team boss Ove Andersson said today.
Both Frenchman Olivier Panis and Brazilian teammate Cristiano da Matta were hit by a fuel pressure problem at today's Malaysian Grand Prix, the same problem that had forced Panis out of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
Panis, who was running strongly in today's race, retired from the event after 13 laps. Da Matta could continue in the race, but he was forced to run his car on a full fuel load in order to circumvent the problem and make it to the end of the race in 11th position.
"I am very disappointed because we were in a strong position to get very good results today, with a competitive car and a good strategy, but we have had the same problem as we had in Melbourne on both cars," said Andersson.
"We at least have a specific problem to deal with now, and simply have to get it fixed for the next race. Competitiveness is one thing, but we now have to focus on the most important thing, which is reliability."
