Toro Rosso set to run seamless shift

Scuderia Toro Rosso are planning to introduce their seamless shift gearbox at the French Grand Prix, autosport.com has learned

The Faenza-based outfit have started to unlock some speed from their STR2 chassis in recent races, and the transmission improvements should give them a further boost in the next race at Magny-Cours.

Sister team Red Bull Racing introduced their seamless shift system at last month's Spanish GP, amid suggestions that the upgrade was worth a few tenths of a second per lap.

Toro Rosso team boss Gerhard Berger said his team had not followed suit in running their seamless shift immediately because they wanted to make sure it was as reliable as possible before introduction.

"We are trying to introduce it," Berger told autosport.com. "Earlier this year we tried to introduce a similar system to try and shift a bit quicker but we just got a big bill.

"We tried to do two steps at once and we learned our lesson. We won't do it that way again. We will do it the right way, once we think it can survive."
