Ticket sales slump for US GP
For the second year in succession ticket sales for the US Grand Prix have fallen but the organisers are confident the crowd at Indianapolis this weekend will be the largest for an F1 race this season
The inaugural event at the Brickyard in 2000 attracted more than 200,000 raceday fans, last year the number dropped to approximately 175,000, while this year's attendance is predicted to be in the region of 140-150,000.
Indianapolis spokesman Fred Nation told Reuters: "We passed the 100,000 mark a couple of months ago but it will be down from last year." Nation cited a "lack of drama in the championship" together, fewer European fans making the trip over the Atlantic and the general economic downturn as the reasons for the drop in sales.
Despite fewer fans making their way to the track this year, the crowd will still be almost double the number that attended the Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago, and considerably more than most IRL or Champ Car races attract.
