Theissen confident engine issues resolved

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen is confident that his team's engine problems are now behind them, after seeing both cars finish in the points in the Australian Grand Prix

Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve each suffered an engine failure in the first two races of the season due to problems with the crank case, and the team adopted an interim solution for Melbourne.

Theissen said he never expected problems at this race, especially since they changed Villeneuve's engine before qualifying, and sounded upbeat about the situation for the next race in Imola.

"I did not expect an engine blow up this weekend because we had two fresh engines in the car, and I am confident those engines can go to Imola and make it there as well," he explained.

"We are on top of the situation. We had the first set of modifications here, and that should be okay for Imola as well. We are working on the total solution in parallel back home."

Theissen believed that Heidfeld's run to fourth place, with Villeneuve two places further back, was probably the best his team could hope for.

"I am very happy. It is such a big success to have both cars in the points, and we could not expect more.

"The race went perfect for us, the car was quick, Nick was all the race okay and Jacques with a one-stop strategy could make up ground. So I think that was the best result we could achieve.

"We are somewhere between fifth and 10th in terms of cars and at the moment P5 in terms of teams, so that is where we are if everything goes fine."
