Tension mounts between McLaren pair

David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen are balanced delicately on the edge of an in-team feud after the Scot scored a masterful victory at the Belgian Grand Prix

Hakkinen finished second to re-take the lead in the world championship by a single point from Eddie Irvine who was a distant fourth.

But the Finn was far from happy at being squeezed out of the front spot by his team-mate at the first bend after he fumbled the start.

'I don't regard that as a place to overtake,' said Hakkinen.

'That was an experience but it was not a pleasant one. I don't want to make any further comment.'

Coulthard said, 'This was a very important race - just like Hungary - and winning the race is a great feeling. I have achieved a dream by winning on my favourite circuit. It is challenging and it is crazy and all the things I love about motor racing.'

Coulthard was unrepentant after picking up 10 points, 'That's motor racing.
If Mika's upset I can't help it.'

'Its great to beat Mika in a straight fight. If Mika didn't shake my hand on the podium its not my concern. I won Spa and I feel bloody good with it.

'Most people are unhappy if they don't win. It was a great manoeuvre and that's motor racing.

'Maybe I was squeezing when I turned in but I turned left quickly when we touched and I fully expected to Mika to take the lead coming out of the corner so I don't know what happened to him there.

'I didn't want to have an incident between the two of us again. But I came out in the lead and I thought okay - lets go.

'I think I can win the championship and I love the next circuit, Monza I go well there, so I should be up there challenging again.'

McLarens 1-2 saw the world champions back in the lead in both the drivers' and the constructors' championships with four races remaining.
