Suprised Fisichella Hoping for Podium Finish

Giancarlo Fisichella was surprised with his performance in qualifying at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit on Saturday, when he set the sixth quickest time of the day.

Giancarlo Fisichella was surprised with his performance in qualifying at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit on Saturday, when he set the sixth quickest time of the day.

"Top six was more than I expected so I am very pleased," admitted the Jordan driver after the session. "We did a very good job with the engineers and mechanics and everything was going well.

"Especially with the car set-up. We improved it step by step and particularly for the last run when I did a very good lap."

The Italian driver, who has scored points in the last two races in Austria and Monaco for his Silverstone-based squad, is hoping to keep the momentum going at Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix, a race that has always seen him doing well in the past.

Fisichella has finished four times on the podium in the last five races at the Canadian track, and he aims to score another top three finish on Sunday.

"I have done well in the past here, it's a good circuit and I feel that anything is possible," he added. "I hope to score some points but my target is to get on the podium as I have done here four times before."
