Stakes are raised with traction control return

Traction control returns to Formula 1 for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, and while there are some observers who reckon, for a short time at least, this could level the Grand Prix playing field, bookmakers are convinced that the status quo will reign in Spain

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher is 11/8 to win the Spanish Grand Prix. But David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Ralf Schumacher the other likely candidates to finish first on Sunday. Interestingly, British bookmakers Ladbrokes rate Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya higher than Ferrari number two driver Rubens Barrichello - the Brazilian is priced at 12/1 to win the race.

Gamblers looking for a higher return on their money may wish to look to more exotic bets offered on the Grand Prix. Jordan's Jarno Trulli is 80/1 to take pole on Saturday. The Italian driver is generally rated as a better qualifier than team mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and with the return of traction control, qualifying could well end up a lottery.

Race dual forecasts might be another area to look for higher odds, and with Mika Hakkinen and Juan Pablo Montoya at 25-1 to finish first and second, these kind of bets could be worth a shot if you think your powers of prediction are finely tuned...
