Spyker undecided on 2007 engine
The Spyker-MF1 team are still undecided about their engine plans for next season, despite a meeting between team chiefs and Ferrari at Maranello this week
The team's new bosses have made no secret of the fact that they would be interested in a deal with Ferrari for customer engines, and talks have advanced enough for a meeting to take place at Maranello earlier this week to discuss more detailed points of a contract.
Although news of the meeting has led to speculation that the team will definitely be moving to Ferrari engines next year, team sources insist that no final decision has been taken.
The team remain in discussions with Cosworth, and autosport.com understands that one of the key factors being considered is the technical issues that will arise from either engine option.
The move to Ferrari would create a lot more work because Spyker have experience and technical know-how of running Cosworth engines from their relationship with the Northampton-based engine manufacturer from 2003 to 2004, when the team was known as Jordan.
Should Spyker-MF1 switch to Ferrari then it would mean the end of Cosworth's involvement in Formula One, as the company's deals with Toro Rosso and Williams will come to an end after this season.
