Spare car decision aided Frentzen

A last minute decision to use the spare car and start from the pit-lane helped Sauber driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen come through to finish fifth in a chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix

The German made the decision to use the spare car because it had been fully set-up for wet conditions. Even so, the German found the conditions very hard to drive in.,

"Just before the start we changed out strategy and decided to use the T-car because it was set up fully for wet conditions," said Frentzen. "At the end of the day it turned out to be the right decision. It was not easy to run with a full tank and I had a lot of aquaplaning which made me spin once. But we finished fifth and scored four points, so I am very happy about this result."

Frentzen's team-mate Nick Heidfeld retired with an oil system problem, but team boss Peter Sauber was happy just to leave Brazil with both his cars in one piece. "In the end for us it was a happy race," he said. "We have two undamaged cars and, more importantly, two undamaged drivers. On top of that we were able to score four more points."
