Singapore GP: Sebastian Vettel plays down Red Bull's rapid practice pace
Sebastian Vettel labelled Friday practice's time as inconclusive as he downplayed the significant of ending up quickest in both sessions
The Red Bull driver was fastest both in the first and the second sessions to kick off the Singapore Grand Prix weekend in perfect fashion.
The world champion made it clear, however, that it was too early to know if Red Bull, which has struggled to match its main rivals in recent races, is the car to beat this weekend.
"We can be quite happy, but let's see what we do tomorrow," said Vettel after practice. "It is only Friday.
"Especially around here it is not very conclusive because people might be in traffic and get stuck. All in all, the car seemed to work on either tyre and we go from there."
Team-mate Mark Webber finished as fourth quickest and said he felt his car was competitive around the Marina Bay circuit.
Like Vettel, however, the Australian said it was still early days.
"I think we have got the normal suspects hopefully again at the front, and it can be us fighting for the front row with McLaren and Ferrari," said Webber. "But we never take anything for granted.
"We have a fresh day tomorrow, we have to be ready for that. Normally we find a bit of a step from Friday to Saturday, with the exception of the last few events, and we are looking forward to putting up a good challenge this weekend."
