Silverstone, day 2: JPM quickest

Juan Pablo Montoya set the fastest time in testing at Silverstone for the second day running today (Wednesday), heading Williams team-mate Marc Gene but nearly a second

Working on set-up work for the final two races of the season, the Colombian set a fastest time of 1m19.966s, some 0.858s faster than Gene, although Spaniard completed by far the most laps of the day, a whopping 116.

"Juan spent the session concentrating on fine-tuning the suspension as well as conducting some brake evaluation work," explained test team manager Tim Newton. "Both drivers also undertook tyre testing duties for Michelin."

On his first outing in an F1 car since his horror smash in practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ralph Firman completed 26 laps, setting a best time of 1m23.171s.
