Silverstone day 1: JPM fastest Williams

Williams began a three day test at the Silverstone circuit today (Tuesday), with Juan Pablo Montoya outpacing test driver Marc Gene

The duo were the only cars in action at the circuit, with both conducting set-up work and reliability testing on the FW25. Montoya set a best lap of 1m21.170s, a full 1.527s faster than Gene.

New Sauber test driver Neil Jani had his first run in a Formula 1 car today, when he conducted straight-line testing for the team at Vairano in Italy.

"The acceleration of this car is just marvellous," said the young Swiss driver. "It has been the first time for me that I drove faster than 300km/h and that is an experience of its own. It is definitely complete different to what I have known so far. You simply cannot compare the standard of Formula 1 with any other series. For the near future I want to do as many test sessions as possible and then we will see what comes up."
