Schumacher: Monaco incident behind me

Just five days after Schumacher made up for some of the controversy of his actions in qualifying to take fifth place in Monaco, Schumacher was in a bullish mood during a break in testing at Barcelona in Spain.

His record-breaking lap on Thursday, allied to the latest progress from tyre supplier Bridgestone, has left him upbeat about his chances for Silverstone - as he dodged any reference to the events of last weekend.

"I look ahead in life," said Schumacher in the Ferrari motorhome. "You have to understand that in certain moments there is no point to keep talking about the past.

"In our job it is important to focus now on what happens in the future and that is what I am doing."

Although Schumacher is 21 points adrift of Fernando Alonso in the title chase, he is far from pessimistic about his title prospects - and even saw his fifth placed finish in Monaco as a bonus.

"I think we won five points," he said about Monaco. "I don't think we lost at all."

Looking ahead to the British Grand Prix, Schumacher believes that he and the team are in better shape than their rivals may believe - especially judging by the testing pace from Thursday.

"We have been working very well in the last few days. We are preparing ourselves for Silverstone and things look very positive. We are going to Silverstone to win the race."

Referring back to Ferrari's struggles at the Spanish Grand Prix, where Alonso outclassed them in the race, Schumacher believes that his team's new-found pace this week was not too much of a shock.

"Honestly I think we had the upper hand here in Barcelona (at the Grand Prix), if you look at the Friday and the Saturday," he said. "It was only on the Sunday we did not and that it the only thing that counts.

"Since then we have found better tyres and have improved the car, so we should be competitive if not better than them.

"We have found the missing pace. Without getting into the details we understood the situation. We have found a good step forward with Bridgestone and in general we have made a step forward, so we will see."

In terms of the title fight, Schumacher still believes that the outcome will depend on the development fight between his team and Renault.

"I said at the beginning of the season we could have won in Bahrain, and it is now down to development. I believe we are very strong in this field and with 11 races to go let's see what we can do."

When asked whether he still believed he could fight for the title, he said: "Absolutely, yes."
