Schuey Shouldn't Race at Indianapolis, Says Herbert
Arrows test driver Johnny Herbert believes Michael Schumacher should not compete at the United States Grand Prix if that's not the four-time World Champion's desire.
Arrows test driver Johnny Herbert believes Michael Schumacher should not compete at the United States Grand Prix if that's not the four-time World Champion's desire.
Herbert, who had his debut in the Indy Racing League in Texas last weekend cancelled after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington last Tuesday, believes the German Ferrari driver does not want to race at Indianapolis on September 30 and he shouldn't race against his will.
"I think some are worried about the safety aspect and that is for them to decide," Herbert said. "Michael seemed very against going. He was saying he wasn't going to turn up and I believe Ferrari have said they would free him up from it.
"But being that he was very against, not so much Formula One going, but him going, if he feels that strongly about it he shouldn't go. He shouldn't go just because Bernie [Ecclestone] has said if he doesn't go he'll be stripped of his title. I think that really shouldn't be part of it.
"It seemed to me at the Italian Grand Prix that he was a hundred percent against not going and there shouldn't be anything that should change it."
Ferrari's sporting director Jean Todt said earlier this week that Schumacher was free to skip the United States Grand Prix, but the German admitted later that he had no plans to miss the race.
