Schuey: No fix this time

World champion Michael Schumacher has said that he and Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello will be free to race head-to-head for victory in this weekend's US Grand Prix at Indianapolis

The team and its drivers have been criticised this season for the way they have used team orders to achieve their goals of winning the drivers' championship with Schumacher and second place in the standings for Barrichello.

But with the Brazilian needing just three points to secure the runner-up spot, the five-times world champion says they will be free to openly race each other on Sunday.

"Even if I win, he would win his second position (in the championship), so that means it is a free battle for the last two races, which I'm looking forward to," Schumacher told the BBC.

If Ferrari were to win the final two races of the season the team would equal McLaren's record of 15 race wins in season, set in 1988. But the German maintains that the team's motivation does not come from finding a place in the record books.

"It's not records that drive us," he said. "Our target was to win the drivers' championship, the constructors' championship, ideally to have Rubens in second position, and the rest is probably cosmetic. We still feel very challenged and motivated to go for races and drive for our fans and enjoy ourselves. We work very hard to achieve such results."
