Schu eyes double threat

Formula 1 World Championship dominator Michael Schumacher has admitted that he could face his toughest test of the season this weekend. He views both BAR-Honda and Renault as formidable opponents around the streets of Monaco as he bids to break the record for season-opening race wins

Schumacher comes to Monte Carlo with an 18 point lead over Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello, but he admits that the chasing pack - including BAR's Jenson Button and Renault duo Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli - could be in with a shout of victory this weekend.

Ferrari didn't enjoy a strong Monaco last year, with Schumacher only finishing third behind Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen, but Michael says that is no reason to suggest he won't be on top form this year.

"Last year we didn't seem to have that spark about us and this time at Monaco we want to do better," said Schumacher. "I see no reason why we shouldn't perform well in the Principality. However, I realise that, above all, BAR-Honda are in good shape. Monaco is little like Imola, and I seem to recall that they did really well there. Renault will also be a threat at Monaco."

Schumacher has played down the perceived advantage Renault possesses off the startline going into Monaco, where first corner track position is crucial.

"We don't have any problems with starting," he said. "We have analysed all the starts of the first five races and come to the conclusion that they [Renault] are as good as the other teams, even though they don't seem to be, so I am not really worried too much about Monaco.

"More than anything, the pole position is more important that it is elsewhere but thanks to a sound strateg, you can win even if you start further back. I am always motivated for Monaco and this time won't be any different."
