Sauber takes conservative approach

With overtaking near impossible on the twisty streets of Monte Carlo, teams had been expected to compromise their race set-up to gain qualifying position. However, Frentzen said that Sauber have been focussing on his race set-up.

"We decided for a rather conservative approach today," said Frentzen. "The most important thing is to have a solid race. If we can make that we can certainly score some points tomorrow."

Team-mate Nick Heidfeld, who qualified one place ahead of Frentzen in 14th, was disappointed after graining on his Bridgestone tyres slowed his run.

"I had some graining on the rear tyres which gave me a lot of oversteer and cost me time in the last corner," said Heidfeld. "My mistake in the middle secotr also cost me time. However, we were able to improve the car since Thursday and it felt quite a lot better."
