Sauber Duo Pleased with Qualifying Pace

Both Nick Heidfeld and Heinz-Harald Frentzen were pleased with their performance in first qualifying for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Sauber duo were not happy with their cars following this morning's practice session, with Frentzen even succumbing to an electrical problem that cost him some valuable track time. Both German drivers, however, recovered well for qualifying, and Heidfeld posted a promising seventh fastest time.

"We made some key changes to the car after I experienced a ride height problem in my last two outings this morning that destroyed the balance," said Heidfeld. "This afternoon the car was transformed and we were able to make some huge progress. I'm satisfied with what we achieved, and optimistic for what we can do with the car tomorrow."

Frentzen, who in the morning session could only complete one flying lap before he was hit by electrical problems, wound up eighth quickest, and admitted he had gone faster than expected.

"Bearing the loss of track time in mind I'm delighted with eighth place this afternoon," he said. "It's better than I expected. The car was well balanced, and I think we have a good direction for tomorrow."
