Saturday Second Free Practice - San Marino GP

Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello excited the 'tifosi' in Saturday's second practice session ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix as he topped the times at Imola.

Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello excited the 'tifosi' in Saturday's second practice session ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix as he topped the times at Imola.

The Brazilian, who qualified second behind teammate Michael Schumacher on Friday, set the pace with a best lap time of 1:22.819 to finish ahead of BMW-Williams driver Ralf Schumacher.

Williams driver Schumacher had been quickest for some time but the German crashed out heavily into the barriers after losing control of his car over Imola's notorious kerbs. Schumacher was uninjured.

Jaguar driver Mark Webber, who failed to set a time in the opening practice, continued his impressive run of form as he set the third quickest time. He finished ahead of McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, quickest in the first session, and World Champion Michael Schumacher.

Renault's Fernando Alonso set the sixth best time with McLaren's David Coulthard and the BMW-Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya eighth and ninth respectively. BAR-Honda's Jacques Villeneuve and Toyota's Olivier Panis completed the top ten.

Barrichello went wide at turn five early in the session and enjoyed a trip across two gravel traps before returning to the track, while Jarno Trulli spun and continued at turn 12. Ralf Schumacher ran over the kerbs and lost the back end of his Williams at turn 12 when top of the times before crashing heavily into the tyre barriers.

Ralph Firman stopped his Jordan at turn nine, before his teammate Giancarlo Fisichella, Renault driver Trulli, Toyota's Cristiano Da Matta all made errors before returning to the track. Heinz-Harald Frentzen failed to take part in the second session after encountering problems in the opening 45-minute session and completed only seven laps in total.
