World Championship leader Michael Schumacher showed his dominance once again as he posted the lowest ever lap time at Magny-Cours to end Saturday's practice sessions at the top of the timesheets.

Schumacher set the lap time of 1:13.729 seconds in the opening session, as Ralf Schumacher was second quickest in his Williams, more than two tenths of a second behind his brother.

McLaren duo David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen were third and fourth fastest respectively, with Coulthard failing to improve on his time from the first session. Hakkinen did not post a competitive lap time in the opening session but moved in fourth early in the second session and remained behind his teammate, as Jarno Trulli ended fifth.

Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello was sixth quickest, ahead of Williams's Juan Pablo Montoya, Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, Jaguar's Eddie Irvine, and Kimi Raikkonen, of Sauber, completing the top-ten.

Benetton drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Jenson Button ended 18th and 19th, but the duo will have new developments on their cars when qualifying gets underway.
