Saturday Second Free Practice - Austrian GP

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello held onto Ferrari's position at the top of the timesheets in Saturday's final practice session ahead of Austrian Grand Prix qualifying but he was pushed hard by Williams-BMW rival Juan Pablo Montoya.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello held onto Ferrari's position at the top of the timesheets in Saturday's final practice session ahead of Austrian Grand Prix qualifying but he was pushed hard by Williams-BMW rival Juan Pablo Montoya.

Ferrari had been dominant in Friday's qualifying session at the A1-Ring and they looked set to claim another one-two finish before Montoya dumped Barrichello's teammate Michael Schumacher down to third.

Montoya's time was just six hundredths of a second slower than Barrichello's fastest lap of 1:09.241 while Schumacher was just three hundredths of a second further back. Ralf Schumacher, in the second Williams-BMW, was fourth just 0.177 seconds behind the leading Ferrari with Italian Jarno Trulli outpacing his Spanish teammate Fernando Alonso to claim fifth for Renault.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve was sixth for BAR-Honda, with Finn Kimi Raikkonen, who currently leads the World Championship, seventh for McLaren-Mercedes as his teammate, Scot David Coulthard, languished in 15th place.

Australian Mark Webber finished eighth in the Jaguar, with Alonso ninth in the second Renault, just two tenths of a second slower than Trulli, and Italian Giancarlo Fisichella completing the top ten for Jordan-Ford. Trulli went off the track at the Jochen Rindt Kurve just seven minutes into the session but was able to carry on as was Schumacher after he completed a 360 degree spin at the Castrol Kurve three minutes later.

Schumacher was again in trouble, this time at the final corner, the Mobilkom Kurve, just ten minutes later when he went off track but continued as he pushed his car to the limit to try to beat Barrichello. Villeneuve lost control at the Power Horse curve and had a brief trip off the circuit and Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia had a big run across the run off area at the Remus Kurve.

Jaguar were forced to push Webber's car back to the garage midway through the session after it stopped near the pitlane exit, and Briton Justin Wilson crashed his Minardi into the barriers at turn one after losing control late in the session.
