Rubens: Gene is good news

Rubens Barrichello reckons that Ferrari's recruitment of Marc gene in a test role will make a significant impact on the 2005 Formula 1 season

Gene was snapped up by Ferrari for testing duties after the Spaniard was released by Williams following his disappointing race performances as substitute for the injured Ralf Schumacher.

Ferrari's Brazilian ace has now given the move to pair Gene with long-time Ferrari tester Luca Badoer a resounding endorsement.

"To tell you the truth the new pairing that pleases me most is the Badoer/Gene one," said Barrichello. "They will give a great advantage to Ferrari, because they're very efficient and if with Badoer alone we had great work coming out of the tests, with Gene joining in the quality and quantity of the work done in the tests will improve even further. They're both competent Formula 1 drivers and are doing a great job for us."

Rubens will also keep an interested eye open to see how other new-for-2005 combinations work out. In particular he seems to be expecting fireworks at McLaren.

"As regard to the others," he continued, "I'm curious to see how Montoya will fit with McLaren and with Ron Dennis. That should be something funny to watch!"
