Rosberg just aims to do better than in '07

The British squad have impressed with their Toyota-powered FW30 during winter testing, leading to believe that the Grove team could be one of the surprises of the year.

Rosberg, however, is not making any predictions and says he just wants to take a step forward from last season.

"My only objective is to do better than last year," Autosprint magazine quoted Rosberg as saying.

Rosberg finished in ninth place in last year's championship, having scored 20 points.

The German was linked with a move to McLaren after his strong 2007, but he says he never had any talks with the team and he was glad to stay at Williams.

"Now I can say it: there was absolutely nothing with McLaren. And I'm happy Frank decided to keep me on. I guess he didn't need the money so badly."

Rosberg, GP2 champion in 2005, believes the lack of traction control this year will not make a big difference in the running order.

"I've heard all sort of things on driving without traction control, like the rookies coming up from GP2 will be disadvantaged or have an advantage," he added.

"The truth is that after ten laps I already realized what I had to do. In the dry it will all be the same, while it won't be in the rain and in the thick of things like the start and the first curves. Then we may see a bit of a mess.

"Under normal conditions the driver doesn't count more than before, even though you can see more mistakes.

"At Jerez in the wet, half the field ended up off-track. And then there's the braking: the lack of electronically-controlled engine braking can be felt when you brake. This could give us a few more chances of overtaking."
