Renault Vow to Keep Pushing

Renault have vowed not to ease off in their push for victories in the final three races of the season, despite Fernando Alonso now on the verge of clinching the Drivers' Championship

The Spanish driver has a 25-point advantage over Kimi Raikkonen in the title chase, meaning he just needs to finish third to claim the title, but that is still not enough to satisfy his team.

Although team boss Flavio Briatore has said the Drivers' Championship is the most important target for the outfit, their director of engineering Pat Symonds still has his sights on stopping McLaren beating them to the constructors' title. At the moment just six points separate the two teams.

"It has been quite static for a few races, in that the gaps are not moving a lot in either championship, and the constructors' will go to the wire," he said.

"It will be about finishing races. Week by week we do get a little bit more confident about the Drivers' Championship, but the Constructors' Championship will be hard. It is hard to beat someone who is quicker than you.

"We are working on it though. We have got good stuff coming for Brazil and let's see what we can do."

Although Symonds admits that the margin Alonso has in the Drivers' Championship is comfortable, he knows that the title is not won yet.

"I think the preparation for Brazil will be easier and as a team we can focus on a different sort of objective, which will make life a bit easier as well," he said.

"You should never count your chickens, though, but it is getting damned close after this one. Things can happen and we have got to focus on the Constructors' Championship and see what happens."
