Renault Confident of Progress on Saturday

Jarno Trulli says his Renault team will have to work hard before tomorrow's qualifying in order to improve their positions following a poor showing in today's session.

Jarno Trulli says his Renault team will have to work hard before tomorrow's qualifying in order to improve their positions following a poor showing in today's session.

The Italian, however, is confident the French squad will be able to make progress.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us before tomorrow's qualifying, since, as we expected, this track does not suit the R23," said Trulli, who finished as 11th fastest in today's session.

"However, the potential of the car is there, and it is simply a matter of finding the way to exploit it and I think we will be OK for the race."

Fernando Alonso, who had already played down his team's chances in Austria, posted the 13th fastest time, although like his teammate he was also confident of moving forward tomorrow.

"We knew this is not the best circuit for our car, so I am not too surprised by my position today," said Alonso, who is lying in third place in the Championship. "Overall it was a productive Friday, this morning we worked on a series of things and in the afternoon I had a straightforward lap, but going out third didn't help me too much as the track was not in the best conditions. I am confident I can improve tomorrow."
