Renault confident for Hungary

Renault heads to Budapest for this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix targeting a repeat of its win at the event last year. While the team has ruled out lapping the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher again, it does believe it can prevent him from taking victory for the second time this year.

Fernando Alonso won his maiden F1 victory in Hungary last year, the youngest driver ever to win an F1 race, and the team have also been buoyed by Jarno Trulli's win at the Monaco Grand Prix earlier this year.

"I am feeling confident. We were fast in Hungary last year," Alonso said. "We have been fast with maximum downforce already this season in Monaco so I hope we can have a good race and maybe be in with a chance to win."

Team-mate Trulli is equally confident for not only does the Budapest circuit suit the R24, as was the case last year, but the car will feature new developments.

"Although there has been a testing ban over the past weeks," the Italian said, "we will have a new engine spec in Hungary, new aero parts and the track suits our car. We are confident of being very competitive."

Technical chief Bob Bell added: "The circuit was very good to us last year, and our car this year is probably best relative to the competition on slower circuits where we can use maximum downforce.

"We will be hoping for a similar level to that we demonstrated last year although somehow, I doubt we will find ourselves lapping Michael Schumacher this time around. We have made a sensible tyre choice following hot weather testing and we have every confidence we can manage our tyres correctly during the event."
