Renault aiming at Top Three

Renault technical director Mike Gascoyne paid tribute to Fernando Alonso's second place in the Spanish Grand Prix and then said he hopes that the team can challenge for a top three position in the championship

"Fernando was sensational," Gascoyne said. "He'll get out of the car and say it was easy and so forth, but that is the mark of the good ones. "But Austria will be more difficult for us," he went on. "It's more of an engine circuit but we've got an improvement coming and we can be competitive everywhere. There's not much more we can do to announce ourselves!"

Asked the inevitable championship questions with Alonso currently sat third, just seven points from the lead and boasting a 100 percent point-scoring record, Gascoyne said: "We want to be in the top three. There'll be some worse circuits for us but we've got to look at going and winning in Monaco and Hungary, and being on the podium at places like Silverstone and Suzuka. Qualifying fifth or sixth is no longer good enough for us."
