Ralf expects to have to wait on future

The German's only realistic chance of remaining in F1 is in getting a fresh deal with Toyota, and talks with the Japanese car manufacturer are ongoing.

But speaking to autosport.com in Turkey, Schumacher said that he was not expecting any news imminently.

"There is nothing new at the moment," said Schumacher. "We are still talking, but I think it will take a while."

When asked whether that means he may have to wait until after the season to find out his future, he said: "Maybe, yes."

Schumacher enjoyed his most competitive race of the season in Hungary and is upbeat that his team can become regular points scorers.

"Since America the car has got better and better each race. We just weren't able to score any points, which was a bit of a shame.

"I think anything that gives us the possibility to stay in the top ten with both cars in qualifying and score points, that should be good enough.

"I think we are clearly not good enough at the moment to beat Ferrari and McLaren, but BMW were close in Hungary. Sometimes they are close, sometimes they are a bit further ahead. So it might be possible to be a position between fifth and eighth."
