Raikkonen unmoved by lost second
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen says he did not mind losing second place on the final lap of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal
The Finn, still searching for his first win of the season, ran in second place for most of the race, but made an error at the hairpin on the final lap.
His car went wide and allowed Ferrari rival Michael Schumacher to take second. Raikkonen had to settle for third.
But with the Finn having already admitted the title is out of reach, he said he was not worried about losing second place because he only wants to win races.
"It wasn't the easiest of races," admitted Raikkonen. "The car was good to start with. In the first pitstop there was a problem with the clutch and the wheels were still spinning and in the second pitstop the car stopped because the clutch was not working.
"Then I lost second to Michael. I just ran on the sand and the circuit was breaking down in a few places and I could not do anything. It it is not ideal but it doesn't matter to be second or third to me if we don't win."
Raikkonen, now 45 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso with nine races remaining, was philosophical about his error.
"The car was not the easiest to drive, and the circuit breaking down which made it difficult. It was just a mistake and it cost us one place but it happens sometimes."
