Raikkonen: Ferrari just not quick enough

Kimi Raikkonen admitted that Ferrari simply did not have enough speed to challenge McLaren at Monza, after confessing that his neck had also caused him problems in the race

The Finn opted for a one-stop strategy to try and overcome the pace deficit to McLaren, but despite getting past Lewis Hamilton in the stops he was unable to hold onto that position to the flag.

But the McLarens were the least of his problems as he suffered from neck pains following his high-speed crash in final practice on Saturday.

"The car wasn't too bad," he said. "In the first stint it was pretty okay. We were heavier than the McLarens and we knew that they would pull away.

"Probably the biggest problem was that I could not keep my head up under braking. My neck is not in such a great shape after yesterday so that was the main issue. But we just didn't have the speed."

Speaking more specifically about his neck issues and whether they played any part in him losing second place to Hamilton, he said: "The problem was under braking. It was hard to keep the head up. It didn't help for sure. I tried to do my best but he got too close and got past me."

Raikkonen, now 18 points behind Hamilton with four races to go, also said that he was not surprised McLaren were so fast at Monza - with his Ferrari F2007 having proved not to be as good over kerbs this season as their rivals.

"Monza is a bit like Montreal. We knew that they would be strong here. We knew from the test last week that we were not where we wanted to be."
