Q & A with Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton: Fourth is not a bad position to start from. I am on the second row and still in a strong position to challenge for the win if I need to. I can finish there. There is no rush to jump ahead - we just have to run the best we can. If we can make up places then great, otherwise we will just try and do the best job we can to keep our position.

Q. How much do you think about Fernando Alonso being right up behind you?

LH: I don't think about it. It is going to be tough at the start, but I think all the drivers respect each other. So, if I get a bad start then I expect him to challenge me. Otherwise I will do the best job to stay ahead of him.

Q. What about the tricky first corner here. Are you worried about the start?

LH: It is going to be a tough race but I have no need to take any risks or anything like that. I am not worried about the start.

Q. What actually went wrong in qualifying today?

LH: Well, for you it went wrong, but for us we did the best job we could. The first lap of Q3 wasn't great but the second one was fine. This is the strategy we are on.

Q. Rain is expected tomorrow. Do you fear it being a lottery?

LH: When it is wet, it is down to who keeps the car on the track. I know here that in Brazil when it rains, it rains hard. So it will be tough for all of us. None of us have tested in the rain here this weekend, so it will be a new challenge and a new experience for us. Again we will just try and bring it home safely.

Q. What was your reaction to being thrown a toy black cat at a promotional event the other evening? And Felipe Massa says you have to accept this sort of thing in sport, it is what happens, and if it happened to him at Silverstone then fair enough?

LH: I took it as good luck, because in the UK black cats are quite lucky! So it doesn't make too much difference. And I am quite proud of my British fans, so I doubt very much (stuff like) that would happen at Silverstone.

Q. It seems it is always easier to drive when you have a set target in mind. Felipe's target is very clear as he needs to win, while your target is more general as you are just focused on the world championship. What is your target tomorrow?

LH: I haven't approached this weekend any different to how I have approached any other weekend. We have come here to try and win. Obviously today we showed good pace and the strategy we chose was perhaps not the best for qualifying. But today is not where you get the points, tomorrow is where you get the points. So we are in a strong position for tomorrow.

We don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. The weather might be great like it was today, or it might rain. And if it rains we are in a very good position. And you don't know what Felipe is on - he might be on a three-stopper. Who knows? Or maybe he is just so quick! Good for him.

Q. What is your routine from today and into tomorrow's race to keep yourself calm and composed?

LH: It won't be any different to any other weekend. Tonight I don't have any particular plans. I may watch a movie, maybe play PSP, chill with my brother. I will relax, come here tomorrow with a clear head and try and do a good job.

Q. Which movie will you be watching?

LH: I think Heikki says he has some good ones for me to borrow!

Q. At the beginning of the year most drivers warned that the second year of F1 is harder than the first year. Has that been the case or not?

LH: Well I think this year I have made more mistakes, but I have arrived at the last race of the season with the same amount of points (advantage) as we had last season, so that says everything.
