What links a scribe's rudimentary '70s transport with an inspiring education initiative?

Jenson Button: This morning was good for everyone. They got a chance to try the tyre that we had. This afternoon was a bit strange, it was windy and the car didn't feel all that good. We made lots of changes, some of them didn't work, some of them did. I think we moved the car forward. Then we ran the option tyres.

I think that the runs were reasonable. We just seem to have lost a lot of ground since this morning with the balance of the car compared to our competitors. There's a lot of work we need to do to get the car back to where we want to.

There were some positives from the session and we've just got to build on them really. The car hasn't made a leap forward in the last two races which we had hoped. We've just got to get the best out of it this weekend and then see where we are.

Q. Looking to qualifying, how is the soft tyre. Some drivers are saying it's a bit of a knife edge?

JB: We normally struggle to get the softer tyre to work but here's not a problem at all for us which is a good thing. If you can get it to work it should be quite a bit quicker than the harder tyre so that's a positive for sure. We've been working on our qualy performance last week at the test so I'm a little bit more happy with the car.

Q. What amuses you when you are at the German Grand Prix?

JB: The music and we get to here quite a lot of it staying in my motorhome. They're very loud the German fans, especially the camping ones. They like their hard rock and it's quite repetitive which is a good thing because at least there's a beat there you can fall asleep to! And the air horns - it's the loud things you remember when you come to Germany. And there are some beautiful girls here!

Q. Was the track very green today?

JB: This morning it was because it rained, and this afternoon it became very windy. There was a big tail wind into turns two and six which made it a bit hard work under braking. But I think we did a lot of positive work in practice. We didn't start with a very good balance at all but it got better through the session. We improved the car for one lap and the runs. But we're still nowhere near as quick as we would like to be.

Q. Ross was quoted today saying he intended to keep the same two drivers for next year. Do you intent to stay at Honda - have you signed a contract?

JB: I would like to stay at Honda next year. I think it's a good team to be with for the future. I was asked by another driver where he he thought he should be but it's not an easy decision for many drivers if you're not in a Ferrari or McLaren.

But for me the best team has got to be here because everything we have at the factory and the personnel we have is perfect for having a good season next year and we're in the right decision to do so. And with the new rule changes it should help us a lot so being here next year would be great.

Q. Was it Fernando Alonso asking you which team he should be with?

JB: No, I can't remember who it was now off the top of my head!

Q. Have you signed a new contract?

JB: I can't comment on that. I can't comment on that yet. As I said I'm happy with the way things are going and this would be a great place to be next season for many drivers.
