Q & A with Fernando Alonso

Q. After qualifying you went to the stewards. Can you tell us what that was about?

FA: No. We will see tonight.

Q. Go through the problem that happened during the final run.

FA: We had not a clear lap in the last new tyres in Q3 and that was it.

Q. You had a very slow middle sector, was that just down to traffic?

FA: We were slow everywhere, unfortunately especially in Q3, I a sure that some of the slow pace in Q3 is mainly with the fuel. I am sure we are stopping later than the guys in front and a little bit of not very good car balance with a lot of fuel in the car.

Q. Are the soft tyre faster?

FA: Yes.

Q. How much?

FA: Maybe two or three tenths.

Q. How many cars come across on the final lap?

FA: We had four in Turn Four, and then the two Ferraris I think somewhere else, so six cars or something like that. Four of them were off line, not disturbing (anyone), and two of them were on the racing line.

Q. Which two?

FA: The two McLarens.

Q. Is it the worst you have seen in that situation?

FA: Yes. I think it is because this year's rules of Q3 being shorter, the people finish the timed lap in a different time and different position, so it was an unlucky situation. They finished their timed lap a little bit earlier than us, but for me I am sure it was the worst thing.

They are running at 60kph and we are at 300kph so it is too big a difference in speed and a little bit dangerous.

Q. Should rules forbid fuel saving?

FA: I don't know. That is a solution but as I said, we were six or seven cars, with five of them we had no problems so it is also up to us to move off the line.
