Pizzonia to test for Jaguar
Brazilian Formula 3000 star and Williams development driver Antonio Pizzonia is to test for Jaguar at Barcelona this week
Pizzonia, who has racked up thousands of testing miles for Williams-BMW this year, will get behind the wheel of the R3 on Thursday and again on Friday morning.
"I'm sure the idea of Pizzonia testing a Jaguar will raise some eyebrows," said a team spokesman, "but for us it's just the continuation of our young driver evaluation programme. For sure he's a potential candidate for a role next year."
Jaguar is running just one car in Spain this week as it concentrates on a Michelin tyre programme. The team's regular driver Pedro de la Rosa will drive on Wednesday before handing over to Pizzonia on Thursday afternoon.
The team is also running a parallel straightline test at Santa Pod with German Andre Lotterer at the wheel.
Pizzonia, who won the 2000 British Formula 3 championship, finished fifth in this year's F3000 series, scoring a best result of second place in the final round of the season at Monza last weekend.
So far this season Jaguar has run Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber alongside team stalwarts de la Rosa and Eddie Irvine in lieu of a regular test driver.
