Piquet to Have Second Williams Test

Williams have promised Brazilian Nelson Piquet junior a second Formula One test before the start of the season following the teenager's debut in the car last year.

Williams have promised Brazilian Nelson Piquet junior a second Formula One test before the start of the season following the teenager's debut in the car last year.

"Our conclusion was that the (first) test was a little premature in his case," said team boss Frank Williams at the launch of his team's 2004 car on Monday.

The 18-year-old 'Nelsinho' is the son of former World Champion and namesake Nelson Piquet, who won the third of his titles with Williams in 1987.

He competed in British Formula Three last year, finishing third overall in an impressive rookie season, and is a championship favourite in 2004 in a team run by his father.

"He'll get a second run in the car," added technical director Patrick Head. "Certainly it was very interesting to operate with him at the test. He did a very good job and I'm more than convinced that he will have a very strong Formula One future."

Head said former Brazilian test driver Antonio Pizzonia remained on the list of possible second test drivers for the team, who are still looking for someone to shoulder the burden of testing with Spaniard Marc Gene.
